Please somebody show this to my wife! I try to explain to her why I run race gas in my GT-R, and trust me it’s a much bigger difference in a GT-R than a 370Z…..especially since we can only get 91 Octane here in California.

Yummy! Found this little overlooked gem on a UK GT-R website I frequent. The overall build up is pretty impressive, but I haven’t seen anyone mention “the great equalizer”. That said the car it’s fitted to is pushing over 600whp on a stock fuel system…so I have to wonder how they have this system plumbed up….hopefully it has it’s own fuel system….anyhow, follow the link for more.

My Japanese is not what it used to be, but the folks on NAGTROC are speculating what this slide might mean.I talked with the US Product manager for GT-R last month during the LA Autoshow and he said that the tires alone are going to shave significant time as Dunlop has a new compound available that is good for as much as “4 seconds on a course the size of the Nurburgring”. We’ll have to see what they come back with in April, let the video be the proof.

So I own both, a GT-R and a sportbike, so I can vouch for what they are identifying as the differences. Autocar does a phenomenal job of explaining how the two vehicles attack the track differently, though I have to admit the outcome was a bit of a surprise for me.

So Emil and I swapped cars for a weekend. Me? I took his 997 GT3 to Malibu trying to get him a colelction of speed camera tickets in the Canyons. Him? Took my GT-R to a drag strip (really? Not even a road course?). We each learned a little about each other’s cars. For me, it’s that Porsche doesn’t make a proper racing seat for a Big Whopper ass like mine. First, congrats to Brooks for running a great time without Launch control. 11.6@118 is impressive. Second, this video illustrates why the GT-R is going to loose a roll-on race against most 11 second cars. The GT-R’s weight slows down the ET (118), so the Viper is catching up toward the end (122). This is not unlike how the GT-R does against the Z06 as well. In the 8th, my money in on the GT-R, at the Qtr it’s a driver’s race, take it further, and the Viper is going to win.

First, HUGE THANK YOU TO EDMUNDS! Very cool to put on this event and let Nissan owners get the first sneak peak at this car. Very classy. Second, I’m sorry these photos are so blurry, I had the exact wrong settings on my little point and shoot. Third, I have to say stills do not do this little car justice. The 370Z has all sorts of great angles and curves that create a lot of drama in the design. Anyhow, here is the slideshow, stills and insider info on the GT-R after the jump

Follow the jump below to get a little info on my conversation with the GT-R product manager.

Got a chance to meet with the product manager for the 370Z who clued me in that NISMO parts are already on these cars and being tested (namely a differential cooler and exhaust). The conversation went to the GT-R, and he mentioned that we can expect to see some incremental changes to the 2010 GT-R, and Dunlop is working on a new stickier compound for next years car that “already have shown a few seconds improvement on the GT-R’s Nurburgring time“ He was tight lipped on what else was being done in 2010, but he said the GT-R product team is looking at the car the same way a racing team does constant yearly iterative improvement with verification at the Nurburging. If we’re lucky we’ll get him on camera later this week. Anyhow, here are some more event photos. Jalopnik has better ones up already.
